2008 Winner! Heather Day from St Peter's Junior and Infant School in Birstall

Lollipop lady Heather Day from St Peter's Junior and Infant School in Birstall, North Yorkshire was selected as the Kwik Fit Insurance UK Lollipop Person of the Year for 2008.

With 22 years of service at St Peters under her belt, the school were keen for Heather to be recognised for all her good work and this really came across in the wonderful poems, drawings, painting and stories the pupils submitted.

2007 Winner! Bob Band from Colinsburgh Primary School, Fife

Bob Band was voted Scotland's Lollipop Person of the Year in 2007. He came out top from over 5,000 nominations from around the country. Winner Bob Band was stunned following the announcement that he had won the top title.

He said: "This is a great honour for me. To be voted the best Lollipop Person in Scotland is wonderful. I really enjoy what I do and helping ensure everyone keeps safe at school is really important. To be part of that is something I am very proud of. I'd like to thank for everyone who voted for me."

Bob was presented his award by TV's Lorraine Kelly at a ceremony in Scotland Street School Museum in Glasgow.

2006 Winner! Moira Stallard from Clarkston Primary, Airdrie

In 2006 Moira beat off fierce competition to be crowned our 2006 Lollipop Champion. Her entry was plucked from more than 3,500 nominations because of the all round commitment and dedication to her job and pupils shown in her nominations.

The Golden Lollipop and £500 prize was presented to Moira on the 18 th April 2006 by Tavish Scott, Minister for Transport, at Clarkston Primary School in Airdrie.

Moira said "I really did not expect to win but I am honoured to be receiving such a prestigious award. I've loved every minute of the 20 years that I've worked at the crossing outside Clarkston Primary School and have built great relationships with the school and its pupils. It's wonderful to know that the pupils and members of the surrounding community think I'm the best in Scotland!"

"I think it's a great honour. I just like meeting people, meeting all the boys and their parents. I now take boys of boys I used to take over, and nephews, and I just like meeting people." Caroline Bashford, head teacher of Edinburgh Academy Junior School, said Mrs Pugh was an important member of the team. "She knows everyone by name and has been patrolling this area for 29 years. On many occasions she goes well beyond the call of duty."

"It's a real honour to receive this award. Having spent the last five years at Underbank school I've built up a great rapport with the children, teachers and parents alike. It's a joy to turn up to work each day - I don't think many people can say that!"
